Urbaser completes the acquisition of Stericycle’s biosanitary waste management businesses in Spain and Portugal

  • This acquisition turns Urbaser into a leader in biosanitary waste management in Spain and Portugal
  • The deal, announced in October, has been completed according to the expected timeline

Madrid, January 2, 2025. Today, Urbaser, leader in environmental solutions, announced the completion of its acquisition of Stericycle’s business operations in Spain and Portugal. Stericycle is an American multinational specializing in the management of biosanitary waste.

With this acquisition, Urbaser strengthens its commitment to the Spanish market and expands its service portfolio, positioning itself as a leading player in the management, collection, and treatment of healthcare waste, serving both public (hospitals) and private (clinics, laboratories, veterinary centers, etc.) clients.

This acquisition includes the management of nearly 32,000 tons of healthcare waste.
As Urbaser’s CEO, Fernando Abril-Martorell, highlighted last October, “This acquisition confirms Urbaser’s commitment to investing in Spain and solidifies our leadership in providing high-value-added circular solutions to clients, advancing the execution of the company’s strategic plan. Additionally, the transaction allows us to continue growing in Portugal, a country we consider highly attractive.”
