Urbaser, one of the world’s largest providers of environmental services, announced today the appointment of Fernando Abril-Martorell as CEO. Mr. Abril-Martorell will start his role on the 15th June 2022.

The appointment follows the completion of an extensive international search process that was previously announced in January.

He was most recently Chairman and CEO of Indra and served previously as CEO of Grupo Prisa, CEO of Credit Suisse in Spain and Portugal, and CFO and later CEO of Grupo Telefonica. “We are committed to providing Urbaser with all the resources it needs to maximize its potential, which includes recruiting the best management talent to lead the company forward,” said Louis Samson, Partner at Platinum Equity, which acquired Urbaser last year.

“Fernando is an exceptional leader and proven CEO who we believe is the perfect fit for Urbaser. He has strong values and an impressive track record building and managing high-performance teams across a range of different industries,” added Daniel Madden, Managing Director at Platinum Equity.

“Urbaser is a well-recognized leader in circular economy solutions and an excellently positioned company, with an opportunity to make an even bigger impact as the company continues to grow sustainably in other parts of the world,” said Mr. Abril-Martorell. “I am thrilled to join the company and to have an opportunity to work alongside more than 60,000 men and women who are committed to create a real impact on their communities.”
